Upper Itchen Valley Society
Life membership for the whole family is just a one off payment of £25
What is the Upper Itchen Valley Society (UIVS)?
A community organisation formed in 1970 to safeguard all that is good in the character of the Itchen Valley. The catalyst was the construction of the M3 when residents wanted to maintain the integrity of the valley and its villages.
What does the UIVS do?
The committee plays an active role monitoring all planning applications submitted to the City Council to ensure that development is sympathetic, sustainable and justified. We are consulted on environmental issues and local planning policies. For example the UIVS was instrumental in ensuring that the boundary of the South Downs National Park was changed to include the whole of the Upper Itchen Valley corridor. We also financially support local interest groups and village halls, fund tree planting and other environmental activity. We also aspire to be a forum to galvanise more environment activity across our villages.
Why should we join?
It is essential that we have a sizeable membership to ensure our representations carry greater weight. We also organise fun gatherings, talks and walks on local issues that are great ways to meet your neighbours.
